Work with our world-class Flushing pediatric dentists

Our pedodontists are ready to give your child the expert pediatric dental care they need

Flushing Hospital Medical Center’s team of pediatric dentists oversees high-quality dental care for countless children each day that incorporates the latest in pedodontic techniques and technology to prevent and treat a wide variety of conditions. These procedures may be either surgical or non-surgical and can help ensure your child’s dental development is as healthy and complication-free as possible.

Pedodontists also focus significantly on the promotion of good dental hygiene as children and young adults age, as this plays a significant role in the way their oral (and overall) health may change over time.

Frequent, consistent brushing and flossing helps to control bacteria that can enter the body’s digestive and respiratory tracts through the mouth. This can help to decrease the risk children face for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, pneumonia, as well as many other conditions.

A pedodontist oversees many of the same treatments and procedures as a general dentist, but focuses specifically on the needs of younger patients. This often means that treatment involves specialized equipment that is designed with children’s comfort in mind, but also includes communicating and managing patient behavior in a manner that makes the experience as painless as possible.

Exams: Routine dental exams are critical to your child’s oral health and development. An exam can diagnose a wide range of potential issues as they appear, allowing them to be treated with minimal interference to your child’s developing dental health.

Cleanings: Even if your child brushes and flosses regularly, routine dental cleanings are still important for preventing buildup of plaque and tartar. A cleaning typically involves scraping your child’s teeth followed by a basic oral exam, application of gritty toothpaste to polish their teeth, and flossing.

Fillings: Your child may develop cavities, causing small openings to form that permanently damage the surface of a tooth and allow bacteria to accumulate. A filling involves applying a material to this area after infected surfaces have been removed.

Extractions: When a child’s teeth become crowded, a development such as a wisdom tooth is causing pain, or certain teeth become dangerously infected, an extraction may be necessary. A local numbing agent is applied to the area of the procedure, ensuring that it’s as painless as possible.

Stainless Steel Crowns: Stainless steel crowns are a common solution for restoring teeth that have been damaged or have developed cavities. They provide an effective alternative to extractions for baby teeth, preventing potential developmental complications for adult teeth such as crowding or misalignment.

X-rays: X-rays may be performed to monitor your child’s dental development as the teeth and jaw grow into young adulthood. They assist in accurate diagnosis of oral health issues such as cavities, crowded teeth, or misaligned teeth, as well as more serious potential issues such as oral cancer.
