Our endodontists oversee a range of specialized treatments to help preserve your teeth

At Flushing Hospital Medical Center, you can receive treatment for endodontic issues such as tooth abscesses, injuries, and decay that threaten the integrity of your teeth. These issues are treated through a range of surgical and non-surgical methods depending on their nature and severity. If you’re experiencing pain, sensitivity, or swelling in or around your teeth, Flushing Hospital’s endodontists can help.

Endodontics is a specialty area of dentistry that focuses on problems that may compromise your tooth integrity. It typically involves diagnosis of the causes of tooth pain and procedures such as root canal surgery to treat conditions and injuries affecting the interior of the teeth.

Endodontic issues can present a variety of different symptoms. Aside from tooth pain and discomfort, they can potentially cause swelling in the face, fever, and ultimately an infection that can affect the rest of your body. In particularly advanced cases, this can lead to life-threatening complications such as the development of sepsis.

Your primary dentist may refer you to an endodontist if this type of problem is detected during an x-ray or other diagnostic exam. While general dentists do oversee some of the same procedures as endodontists, including root canal surgeries and tooth repairs, they generally oversee a lower volume of these treatments and are not necessarily equipped with sufficient tools or expertise to treat complex issues.

Our endodontics services

Root Canal Surgery: A root canal may be required to treat inflammation or infection at the roots of the tooth. The pulp inside the tooth is removed, then the root canals are cleaned, disinfected, and shaped before a filling is placed inside the root to seal it.

Endodontic Retreatment: It’s possible for a tooth to heal improperly after root canal surgery, causing further disease or inflammation and requiring you to receive endodontic retreatment. This additional procedure can promote healing and relieve pain.

Endodontic Surgery: Endodontists oversee a variety of different surgical procedures to save a tooth, depending on the nature of the issue affecting it. The most common surgery is apicoectomy, which treats inflammation or infection at the bony area around the end of your tooth after a root canal.

Traumatic Dental Injuries: If your tooth has been chipped or cracked due to physical trauma, an endodontist can help repair it. Endodontists can coordinate emergency procedures to save your teeth and perform a thorough exam to check for unnoticed issues that may affect your other teeth.
