Welcome to Flushing Hospital’s Dental Medicine Residency Program

The FHMC Department of Dental Medicine offers a fully accredited, CODA‑approved, one‑year General Practice Residency (GPR) program in a new, state‑of‑the‑art facility. Our recently built 3,350‑square‑foot dental center features eight spacious operatories, advanced imaging technology, iTero 5D+ scanners, and an on‑site Glidewell milling machine.

Using our digital workflow, residents can fabricate screw‑retained implant crowns in as little as one hour and full‑contour zirconia crowns in under 40 minutes. The lab is also equipped to mill 3–4‑unit bridges, inlays, onlays, and veneers. Residents gain experience in all aspects of dentistry, both in the clinic and the operating room.

We do not have specialty residency programs, nor do we host rotating specialty residents. This structure allows our GPR residents extensive hands‑on experience. Under appropriate supervision and specialty training, residents are encouraged to scan, mill restorations, and place implants.

The program includes a comprehensive didactic curriculum featuring presentations developed by our faculty, the ADA, and the ACD, covering topics such as implant overdentures, advanced restorative dentistry, and practice management. Outside speakers also present on career preparation, life after residency, and professional development.

FHMC serves a patient population of more than 200,000 lives, with a strong emphasis on both high‑quality care and compassion.

We value professionalism, punctuality, self motivation, and teamwork. Our strong sense of community extends beyond residency, and we maintain close relationships with our graduates long after they complete the program.

Upon successful completion of the residency, participants are awarded a Certificate in General Dentistry.
