Flushing Hospital’s Asian Behavioral Health Program has provided culturally sensitive behavioral health care to thousands of patients & families in the community for over 20 years. In response to the rise in anti-Asian attacks during the pandemic, our hospital developed  the  Building Resilience Against Anti-Asian Violence & Racism (or BRAAVR) program to support individuals who have experienced racially-related traumatic experiences and raise awareness of mental health issues associated with racial violence or discrimination. Victims of racism may experience:
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Anger
  • Fear
  • Low self-esteem
  • Shame
The Asian Behavioral Health Program is providing the following services to assist victims and their families:
  • On-site, in-person mental health counseling
  • Mobile Crisis Unit ( Our mobile crisis team provides care to patients who are either unable or unwilling to receive continuing outpatient psychiatric services.  This team, comprised of a coordinator, certified social worker, and psychiatrist, visits the homes of patients on an as-needed basis.)
  • Virtual, telehealth counseling
Our service programs are facilitated by culturally competent staff including Mandarin & Cantonese-speaking receptionists, Mandarin & Cantonese-speaking psychiatrists and counselors, Korean-speaking counselors, and clinicians speaking languages of Southeast Asia.
