Flushing Hospital Medical Center’s Mother-Baby Unit provides the ultimate mother-baby experience.
Our 28-bed unit is highly secured and provides you with a safe, nurturing and comfortable environment to bond with your baby.
Newly renovated rooms feature many amenities including ADA-compliant, private bathrooms with showers, bedside tablets and electronic information boards for moms as well as sleeper beds to accommodate overnight visitations from a support person.
The entire floor of our Mother-Baby unit is equipped with an enhanced circulation system, with all rooms having the ability to provide negative pressure. This is extremely important for patient safety, especially during these times.
Flushing Hospital practices 24 hour-rooming-in, this means mom and baby are not separated after delivery in most cases. Research shows that rooming-in allows mothers to learn their baby’s feeding and sleeping cues. Our staff will visit you routinely for baby check-ups and to see if there is anything you may need. We encourage your support person to spend the night to assist you in caring for your baby.
In the event your baby needs closer monitoring, he or she may remain in our newborn nursery or Level 3 certified Neonatal Intensive Care Unit , both are located within close proximity of the Mother-Baby unit. Here, your baby will receive specialized care.
Birth Certificates
Before your day of discharge, a birth registrar will present you with paperwork to be handed in for your baby’s birth certificate. The certificate and social security card will be mailed to you within 2-8 weeks. More information is available on the New York State website.
You can also receive birth registration assistance on our first floor, at the Admitting office. To speak with someone, please call 718-670-5435 (All days and times).
Day of Discharge
Safety is our top priority. All infants leaving our hospital in a vehicle must be placed in a car seat. The car seat must be rear-facing and NHTSA approved.
