The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Flushing Hospital offers a complete range of services to provide total health care to women.
Last year, over 2,800 babies were delivered at Flushing Hospital, making it the hospital of choice for many women in the community.
The Women’s Health Center, located on the 5th floor of the hospital, provides prenatal care to thousands of women each year. In addition to clinical care, the center offers many other services to expectant families, including:
- Childbirth Preparation Classes & Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding Classes
- Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding Support Group
- NICU Parent Support Group
- Tours of the Labor, Delivery & Recovery Unit
When it’s time to deliver, Flushing Hospital provides patients with a luxurious and spacious environment; our state-of-the-art Labor, Delivery and Recovery suites provide one convenient setting for the entire birthing experience.
Flushing Hospital’s gynecologists and obstetricians encourage skin-to-skin contact with the baby within the first hour of birth and provide options such as 24 hour-rooming- in for mothers who prefer their baby to remain at the bedside. Flushing Hospital also offers boarding opportunities for fathers who wish to spend the night.
In an effort to offer reassurance to our patients, Flushing Hospital has installed an infant-protection security system on the obstetrical and nursery units.
The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine has the most up-to-date equipment for the evaluation of mother and fetus. This is especially important in the management of high risk pregnancies, which comprise 25% of the deliveries. This division is staffed by a full-time Board Certified Perinatologist and highly trained nurses. Under the direction of the Perinatologist, the division provides genetic counseling, amniocentesis, diabetic counseling, as well as maternal-fetal evaluation during the course of pregnancy.
The Division of Gynecologic Oncology offers comprehensive and multi-disciplinary care to patients with gynecologic malignancies. Treatment options include surgery (robotic and traditional), chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The division is a member of the New York Gynecologic Oncology Group and thereby is able to use the most up-to-date treatment and clinical trials available. Our experienced gynecologists in Flushing are uniquely attentive to the special needs and concerns of their patients.
The Division of Reproductive Endocrinology addresses the problems of infertility as well as menstrual disorders, endometriosis, PMS, menopause, and osteoporosis.
