Flushing Hospital provides critical care to nearly 500 babies in its NICU annually and supports hundreds of families facing the challenges of having a newborn who requires specialized care.

We operate a Level 3 NICU, located on the fifth floor, adjacent to our newly renovated Labor and Delivery, and Mother-Baby Units. Operating a Level 3 NICU means our unit provides advanced, comprehensive, and compassionate care for premature and seriously ill newborn babies.

The NICU team will guide parents, educate them, and communicate with them throughout their newborn’s progress. We welcome parents 24 hours a day and encourage them to touch, hold, and feed their babies as much as possible.

NICU Breastfeeding Support

As an accredited Baby-Friendly-USA institution, Flushing Hospital upholds the highest standards of infant feeding care by promoting breastfeeding. Our lactation consultants are on hand to support families with all their breastfeeding/ chestfeeding needs.

NICU Skin-To-Skin Care

We also promote NICU skin-to-skin care, which involves holding your baby to your bare chest to promote extra warmth and bonding. Skin-to-skin offers several benefits including helping to regulate babies’ temperatures, stabilizing blood sugar and oxygen levels, improving babies’ sleep quality, and improving breastfeeding.
