{"id":7052,"date":"2021-09-27T22:26:50","date_gmt":"2021-09-27T22:26:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.flushinghospital.org\/newsletter\/?p=7052"},"modified":"2021-09-27T22:26:50","modified_gmt":"2021-09-27T22:26:50","slug":"covid-19-booster-shot-facts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flushinghospital.org\/newsletter\/covid-19-booster-shot-facts\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 Booster Shot Facts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flushinghospital.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/vaccine-1305473890.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-7053 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.flushinghospital.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/vaccine-1305473890.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"374\" height=\"252\" \/><\/a>According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), \u201cStudies show that after getting vaccinated against COVID-19, protection against the virus may decrease over time and be less able to protect against the Delta variant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is for this reason that the CDC recommends a booster shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for individuals who are at the highest risk of contracting COVID or developing complications from severe disease.<\/p>\n<p>Receiving the booster shot can provide additional protection from the virus by helping people maintain their level of immunity longer.<\/p>\n<p>At this time, the CDC is recommending that the following individuals receive a third shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>People 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings\u00a0<strong>should<\/strong>\u00a0receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series<\/li>\n<li>People aged 50\u201364 years with\u00a0underlying medical conditions\u00a0<strong>should<\/strong>\u00a0receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine at<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series<\/li>\n<li>People aged 18\u201349 years with\u00a0underlying medical conditions\u00a0<strong>may<\/strong>\u00a0receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks<\/li>\n<li>People aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting\u00a0<strong>may<\/strong>\u00a0receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have questions about your eligibility for a booster vaccine please contact your doctor or visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.cdc.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To schedule an appointment with a doctor at Flushing Hospital Medical Center, please call <a href=\"tel:7186705486\">718-670-5486<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"disclaimer\">All content of this newsletter is intended for general information purposes only and is not intended or implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
