These differences in air quality both\ninside and outside can increase our chances of becoming dehydrated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other factors that can lead to dehydration in the winter\ninclude:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Cold-induced diuresis (frequent urination)<\/li><li>Drinking less water because we tend to feel less\nthirsty<\/li><li>Wearing heavier clothing which can cause us to\nperspire more<\/li><li>Increased respiratory&nbsp; rates which leads to greater water loss <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important that we stay hydrated in winter because\ndoing so helps keep our body temperature at a constant and normal level. When\nthere isn\u2019t enough fluid in the body, this can cause the core temperature to\ndrop to dangerous levels. Hypothermia can set in quicker if the body is\ndehydrated. Staying hydrated is also helps our immune system fight off colds\nand the flu, which are more common in the winter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Things to avoid in cold weather to prevent dehydration\ninclude caffeinated beverages and alcoholic beverages.&nbsp; It is also recommended that you don\u2019t drink\ncold beverages, but rather warm or room temperature beverages because this will\nlead to more frequent urination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Signs and symptoms of dehydration to look out for include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Severe thirst<\/li><li>Reduced urine output<\/li><li>Dark urine for long periods of time<\/li><li>Dizziness<\/li><li>A rapid heart rate<\/li><li>Muscle cramps<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have any signs of dehydration during the winter\nmonths, it is important to seek medical attention immediately.<\/p>\n<p class=\"disclaimer\">All content of this newsletter is intended for general information purposes only and is not intended or implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
