{"id":4926,"date":"2019-05-24T17:05:17","date_gmt":"2019-05-24T17:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.flushinghospital.org\/newsletter\/?p=4926"},"modified":"2019-05-24T17:05:17","modified_gmt":"2019-05-24T17:05:17","slug":"flushing-hospital-recognizes-national-dont-fry-fry-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flushinghospital.org\/newsletter\/flushing-hospital-recognizes-national-dont-fry-fry-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Flushing Hospital Recognizes National Don&#8217;t Fry Fry Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Friday before Memorial Day is designated National Don\u2019t Fry Day \u2013 a day to raise awareness about sun safety and encourage everyone to take the necessary steps to protect their skin from cancer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flushinghospital.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/GettyImages-184339377.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4928\" src=\"https:\/\/www.flushinghospital.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/GettyImages-184339377-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"327\" height=\"222\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the nation, with almost 5.5 million cases diagnosed in Americans each year \u2013 more than breast, colon, lung and prostate cancers combined.\u00a0 In fact, one out of every five Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer at some time in their lives.<\/p>\n<p>Flushing Hospital and the American Cancer Society would like to share the following tips to avoid frying in the sun this summer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Seek shade during the peak time of day \u2013 the sun is at its strongest between 10:00 am \u2013 2:00 pm<\/li>\n<li>Dress properly \u2013 Wear sun-protective clothing as well as UV blocking sunglasses and wide-brimmed hats<\/li>\n<li>Use sunscreen \u2013 It is recommended that you apply sunscreen that is at least SPF 30 every 2 hours<\/li>\n<li>Avoid tanning devices \u2013 These give off UVA rays just like the sun.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By following these tips, you and your family can enjoy the sun, while protecting yourself from the harm that it can cause<\/p>\n<p class=\"disclaimer\">All content of this newsletter is intended for general information purposes only and is not intended or implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
